Mayflower

The NBL Preservation Group was formed in 1990 when a small band of NBL Society members decided to preserve some additional North British steam locomotives outside of the Society framework. As originally constituted, the Group consisted only of a few private individuals who funded all the projects and was not open to public membership.

However, when it became clear that the original NBL Society would eventually become part of the Bucks Railway Centre at Quainton Road, it was agreed to open the NBL Preservation Group to Associate Members and to start raising funds for future locomotive projects.

Since that time, our Group has successfully repatriated Dubs A Class 4-8-2 Tank No. 196 from South Africa to the UK and assisted Glasgow Transport Museum with its North British 15F project. Individual Members have preserved seven further steam locomotives and a splinter Group has initiated the construction of a new NBL-design LNER ‘Footballer’ Class 4-6-0.

As shown below, our aims have been expanded to provide a forum to promote interest in the North British Locomotive Company and to catalogue and illustrate what has been preserved in the UK. Membership is open to all and an Application Form appears elsewhere on this website. We do hope that you decide to join us.
